DU Zhengzhen, professor of Zhejiang University focusing on Chinese social history and legal history. She is also interested in grassroot social organizations, rural life and folk belief. Her published works include Village Community Tradition and Gentry of Ming and Qing Dynasties: The Institutional Change of Rural Society in Zezhou, Shanxi and Habits, Contracts and Rights of Modern Mountain Societies. She also took part in the compilation of Longquan Judicial Archive.
SATO Yoshifumi, professor of Hitotsubashi University. Focusing on the social history and oral history of modern China, SATO has published books like The Belief and Life of Rural China: Record of the Oral Social History of Taihu Basin, Local Consciousness of Modern China, Jiading County Records, Modern and Contemporary Jiangnan Society and Culture in the Fields, etc.
