The West Discovers East Asian Art is published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same title. It contains two essays, explaining in detail the setting up and development of collections of East Asian art and culture in the West. The book also includes entries of the rare books displayed in the exhibition, covering many important works (including exhibition and auction catalogues) on the study of East Asian art from 1842 to the mid-20th century in the West. These books, all of which are from the new acquisitions of the Zhejiang University Library, have reflected the history of collecting East Asian art in the West and the ideological change during the process over a century. Each book is given a detailed description along with exquisite illustrations of the cover and contents.
